The First BRANZ Appraised
Bentonite Waterproofing System in New Zealand

Volclay ProductsVolclay® waterproofing products offer total solution waterproofing.   With Volclay's single source capability, you can be sure of a totally integrated waterproofing system that yields ultimate performance.   Each product uses the natural swelling and self-healing properties of Volclay® sodium bentonite.   This unique mineral was formed from volcanic ash and saltwater millions of years ago, making Volclay® products the most environmentally sensitive on the market today.   All contain zero VOC, can be installed in almost any weather condition to green concrete, and most importantly, have proven effective for more than 30 years.

When wetted, unconfined bentonite can swell 15 to 16 times its dry volume.   When confined under pressure, the bentonite forms an impervious, water-resistant membrane.  With the Volclay® Waterproofing System, the problem activates the solution, reliably and automatically.   If penetrated after installation, Volclay® Waterproofing will self-heal and can seal tiny cracks caused by ground settlement, concrete shrinkage, or seismic action; problems over which there is normally no control.

What are the advantages to using the Volclay® Waterproofing System?

  1. Volclay® can be laid or attached to green concrete as soon as the forms are stripped.
  2. Volclay® can be laid or attached in inclement weather and there is no waiting for the concrete to dry after rain.
  3. Volclay® is self-healing.
  4. Volclay® can be nailed directly to clay, concrete or wood.
  5. Volclay® can be easily joined at difficult junctions.
  6. Volclay® is easily overlapped at junctions where pours are delayed for up to 7-10 days.
  7. Volclay® is a single-source waterproofing system with all the accessories fully tested, the system provides the complete waterproofing system for total encapsulation.
  8. Volclay Voltex® used under a slab bonds to the concrete and expands when water is present making water migration under slab impossible.
  9. Volclay Voltex® keeps moisture in the concrete making for more complete curing.
  10. Site concrete is not required.   Just a prepared sub-base saving costs and time.
  11. Volclay Voltex® is needle-punched ensuring no separation of the membrane and no loose bentonite escaping.

Volclay® Waterproofing Products

Volclay Voltex® and Volclay Voltex® DS Bentonite Geotextile Waterproofing

Voltex is a highly effective waterproofing composite comprised of two high strength geotextiles and 5.2 kg of sodium bentonite per square metre; the most bentonite in any commercially available waterproofing product. The two geotextiles are interlocked by a proprietary needle-punching process which encapsulates and holds the granular bentonite in place and assures a consistent material application. The needle-punching knitted membrane also prevents exposed Voltex from over-hydrating on site.

Voltex is ideal for waterproofing under slabs and property line applications.

Volclay Swelltite® Dual Membrane Waterproofing Protection

Introduced back in 1987, Volclay Swelltite® was the first bentonite waterproofing membrane designed for split-slab deck and plaza construction. Swelltite combines the natural waterproofing abilities of Volclay sodium bentonite with a high-strength geomembrane liner for tensile strength and puncture resistance.

Volclay Swelltite is a true advancement in waterproofing technology. Unlike other adhered membrane systems which require near-perfect installation, Swelltite’s active bentonite compound can expand to seal small installation imperfections or punctures in the membrane.

Volclay Waterstop-Rx® Expanding Waterstops for Concrete Construction Joints

Waterstop-Rx® is a flexible strip concrete construction joint waterstop that provides a positive seal by expanding upon contact with water. Waterstop-Rx® is an active waterstop that functionally replaces conventional passive PVC dumbbell waterstops. Waterstop-Rx® is designed for both continuous and intermittent hydrostatic conditions and has been successfully tested to resist 70 m of hydrostatic pressure.

Volclay Ultraseal® Advanced BPA Waterproofing Technology

Volclay Ultraseal® is a technological advancement in below-grade waterproofing that combines natural sodium bentonite and a chemically resistant hydrophilic polymer to form a bentonite-polymer alloy (BPA). Ultraseal provides exceptional performance unmatched by other commercially available waterproofing systems.

Ultraseal BT is designed for applications where the concrete has already been placed. Typical applications for Ultraseal BT include backfilled foundation walls, tunnels, earth covered structures, and masonry block foundation walls.

Ultraseal SP is designed for applications where concrete is poured directly against the membrane. Typical applications for Ultraseal SP include under slabs and property line construction such as soldier pile and lagging, metal sheet piling, shotcrete and stabilized earth shoring walls.

Remedial Waterproofing Products

Bentogrout® Bentonite Injection Grout for Remedial Waterproofing

Bentogrout® is a high-solids grout consisting of a proprietary blend of bentonite and polymers formulated for sealing water leaks in existing below-grade structures. Bentogrout® is pumped in a fluid state adjacent to the exterior of the structure where it sets up to a solid material forming a waterproofing membrane around the structure. Bentogrout® can be used to seal leaks in concrete, masonry block, brick, and stone foundations.
